CONNECTICUT

Class LL

Where: Trumbull High School (CT)

When: 2/21

Defending champion: Fairfield Warde

Contenders: (6) Ridgefield, Trumbull, Danbury, New Britain

With Fairfield Warde moving down, the door is wide open and Class LL looks like a depth-driven tournament, and Ridgefield enters with ranked wrestlers spread across enough weights to control the scoreboard over two days. The big difference in LL usually comes from how many lineups can consistently put guys into the quarterfinals and beyond, and Ridgefield’s ranked spread gives it a strong chance to stack placement points rather than relying on one or two titles.

The key weights for separating the team race are the ones that are both deep and high-scoring. 157 is the clear pressure-point bracket with three ranked wrestlers who can all make finals runs. 165 is anchored by No. 1 Evan Schibi, and 175 has multiple ranked names from programs that expect to contend. Heavyweight could matter as well, with three ranked wrestlers at 285.

Contenders: (3) Xavier, (10) Newtown, Fairfield Warde, New Milford

Class L has serious top-end talent, with Xavier bringing multiple ranked hammers and Newtown featuring title-level threats that can swing the team race quickly. When: 2/20-2/21

Defending champion: Shawsheen Tech

Contenders: (2) Central Catholic, (5) Shawsheen Tech, (7) St. John’s Prep

Massachusetts D1 is the deepest tournament of the weekend. There are ranked wrestlers throughout every bracket meaning every weight will be a dogfight just to get to the All-States. Shawsheen Tech comes in as the defending champion with top-end anchors, Central Catholic has the kind of depth that can pile up placement points across the tournament, and St. John’s Prep has several key weights where it can change the math quickly with finalists and bonus points.

The weights that matter most for the team race are the ones that are both stacked and volatile. 138 and 150 have serious traffic. 165 is deep enough that the placement rounds could decide the trophy. And then in the upperweights we can see more mayhem, specifically at 190.
