- 10 min read
Two weeks are left in the high school season. In 72 hours, we will have our state champions, and in the week after, we will have crowned our 2024 New England Champions.
But before we can crown the kings and queens of our region, those competing must face their in-state foes to reach the top.
Here’s a preview of EACH state tournament going on this weekend!
In red text is what I think is the toughest weight in that state!

This Year
No. 7 St. John’s Prep may have won the event last year, but just No. 3 Haverhill took the D1 State Tournament, beating the Eagles. No. 5 Shawsheen Tech could be in contention as well, although they look more likely to be just a year away from being a real contender.
No. 12 Central Catholic, No. 13 Methuen, No. 22 Tewksbury, and Milford could potentially shake things up. Shawsheen Tech’s Sidney Tildsley, a junior, will be going for his third state title. Billerica’s Peter Rincan, won a New Hampshire title last season and is looking to now find the same success in the Massachusetts postseason,

This Year
Salem’s depth should win them another title. Timberlane might be the main competitor but look for No. 11 Bedford to contend as well—although they will have to rely on more than just their two top-10-ranked wrestlers. The Crimson Tide from Concord could also pose a threat to the Blue Devil’s chances.

This Year
Mount Anthony Union is looking for their 35TH STRAIGHT TITLE this would extend their current record as the high school team with the most state titles across ANY SPORT.
In their path, however, stands a tough Colchester team that is going to have to rely on more than just their star power of 4 ranked wrestlers (5 if you count Coppins!)–the most of any Vermont team—to throw history off course. And don’t discount Vergennes and Spaulding.

This fight here is really for second place. No. 1 Ponaganset comes into this tournament as the only nationally ranked CNESSPA school, and the Chieftains have the potential to qualify a full lineup to New Englands.
Look for No. 8 Scituate and No. 9 Coventry to contend, along with North Kingstown. Cranston West could finish higher than there sixth place finish in 2023.
